There are respectful ways, I think to have native imagery if you're a team named the Indians. Chief Wahoo is not one of them.
Exactly. No one complains about the Atlanta Braves, or the Chicago Blackhawks, or the Kansas City Chiefs, or the Florida State Seminoles, and so on... Only the Cleveland Indians (for their logo being a cartoonish caricature of an entire race) and the Washington Redskins (for the name being a slur directly referring to the color of their skin) have people criticizing them, and the Indians just solved their problem.
Not only that, but I remember this came up in class a lot of and one guy made the excellent point that Braves, Blackhawks, and Chiefs are all occupations/warriors/etc, which makes them more like saying the Spartans or the Knights than anyone tribe or race.
Seriously, though, why the fuck are people defending the racist as fuck logo nowadays? We are routinely inundated with funny lists of incredibly racist old-timey ads that everyone points at as a hilarious representation of how stupid our advertising was, and yet the Indians are A-OK.
Racist is when someone puts down another race or acts superior, the logo does neither ---
