What I never got is just what do those other rings do?
In fact, why is the One Ring so desired (outside of its "you want me" vibes)? It turns you invisible, into an asshole and allows you to find/control those other rings. They build it up to be this all powerful thing, but I've seen more impressive feats from Captain Planet rings

It basically amplifies the power of whoever holds it.

In the hands of a hobbit (lowest part of the Lotr food chain) it doesnt help them that much. But if you gave the ring to someone strong like Gandalf, Aragon or any other high tier character then they would basically become sauron 2.0 if not stronger and become corrupted with power.

This is why the duty was intrusted to the hobbits to begin with. Even if they turned it wouldn't' be that hard to kill them to recover the ring, also they are more kind hearted and peaceful to begin with so there's that
