it's not offensive so much as not believable
Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Christian Bale as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, etc. are all able to do American accents well enough that you're able to accept them
contrast with Americans who struggle to do any convincing British accent

Peter Dinklage is able to keep up with the actual British actors in Game of Thrones so it's possible.

But yeah, the going theory is that British actors are able to do American accents better than American actors can do British accents is because British actors likely grew up watching more American media than American actors did with British media.

But hey, since British media is sorta mainstream now maybe that will change in the future.
