114. The Simpsons: Barts Nightmare (Robazoid)
gfQz2Hd

I'll openly admit that I'm probably being unfair to this game. It's mostly ranking this low because I was terrible at it as a kid. I feel pretty sure that if I were to play it now as an adult, I'd like it more. Bart's Nightmare is largely a shoot-em-up game with tons of stuff being thrown at you all the time, many of which can kill you in one hit. It's very unforgiving, especially considering you have to start all over when you die, both of which weren't uncommon for a lot of late 80s/early 90s video games. It feels kind of absurd in Bart's Nightmare because literally everything is trying to kill you, no matter where you are, even in the overworld trying to get to the action levels. You have to be wary of every mailbox, basketball, old lady, etc. It does a good job of working in a lot of the Simpsons "lore" (if it can be called such), so it's kind of neat if you're a fan of the show (and why would you be playing this game if you weren't?).

I loved The Simpsons growing up, and it's weird to think that it's still going 17-18 years after I stopped watching it. Anyway, Bart was always my favorite character on the show, which means I was one of the rare people who did what the show "wanted" me to do. Bart was originally supposed to be the central/most popular character, but it eventually shifted to Homer as he became the fan favorite. Look at all the SNES/Genesis era Simpsons games, and nearly all of them have you playing as Bart. So yeah, I wanted to play this game because you got to play as Bart in a lot of his fantasy personas. There's an Indiana Bart segment, a Bartzilla segment, and a Bartman segment. I do remember liking the Bartman one the most, and I remember never being able to beat the Itchy & Scratchy segment because it just goes crazy with all the stuff it throws at you. Like I said, I should probably give this game another shot sometime because I'm sure I could probably handle it now, but for now, this is where it goes.

Bonus Question: What is your favorite video game based on a movie/TV show?
