Straws are more sanitary than slathering your lips on a cup that countless other people have slobbered on before you.

I have never understood this. I have met so many people that, when we go to a restaurant, will actively avoid sipping on the rim of a cup because "other people have sipped on it"

Yet I'll bring up that they have no problem using forks and spoons that other people ate off of and to this day I have yet to actually get a good response as to why one bothers them more than the other.

Plastic cups are more porous than metal utensils, and 'casual dining' restaurants don't seem to keen on using glass for some reason.

The other side of that, of course, is the stigma of asking for a straw at a "classy" restaurant.
