Is he a part time employee or full time?

we're both full time

Is he salary as well? Or does his pay go down when he misses this day?

we're both hourly but he's using sick leave so he's not losing any money.

He accrues sick leave I assume, so its fair for him to use it whenever. He can only use so much so its his time to burn, nothing telling a supervisor would change.

I work for the city and am in the same boat. Sucks I have to stay late/come in early but least I get overtime.
