Precia Testarossa lost her real daughter Alicia to an illness. In her desperation to bring Alicia back to life, she joined up with a group (who was the head of that group isn't revealed until Nanoha StrikerS) that was trying to develop a way to create clones that would inherit the memories of normal humans, living or otherwise. That project eventually came to life as "project F", and its first creation was Fate Testarossa. The problem was, she was an imperfect clone who didn't turn out exactly the same as Alicia. Since that happened, Precia considered the project a failure, hated Fate, and treated her as human trash. She became a villain who desperately used and abused Fate (using brutal whippings and starvation as punishment and the false guise of "earning your mother's affection" as motivation) by forcing her gather the jewel seeds to fix "project F" and revive Alicia.
She fully intended to discard or even kill Fate once she gained the power to bring Alicia back. It also doesn't help that the jewels seeds that would be used for this also contain massive power and could easily cause a universe-level spacial disturbance and probably destroy a few planets and solar systems in the process.
So yeah. Twisted, manipulating, vindictive, abusive, and just plain evil.
THat and mind breaking Fate when she revealed the truth about how much she hated her and what she really is. So yeah, as a Fate lover, fuck that shit nugget sideways.

Yes, definitely watch it. But not for Lucoa. She's the worst character and her only purpose in every episode except the one she's introduced in is flirting and coming onto a stupid little shota shit.

Sub. Funimation changes the scripts of the anime by injecting cringy political, SJW garbage no one asked for in the dialogue. It was even worse in My First Girlfriend is a Slut, but that's fine since no one was watching that anyway. ---
