I remember an Isaac Arthur podcast on Androids.

He argued that there is no good reason for making androids except for roles where highly demanding human interactions where being able to form an emotional bond with the android was necessary. The time and expense in making something indistinguishable from humans only to use it for manual labor was ridiculous and inefficient.

He gave some suggestions like child daycare, caregiving for the elderly, and prostitution. The first two we would rather trust a human to do. Especially since shattering the illusion of the android being human would compromise its effectiveness at its job.

Arthur's final conclusion was that the most immediate and common role for androids would be for sex, and that science fiction had actually managed to underestimate this.
