It's a lot more concise and has a few differences, like explaining that the Zenos were going to wipe out the 8 weaker universes anyway and it was only Goku reminding him of the tournament that gave the winning universe a chance at not being wiped out.

That definitely gets mentioned in the anime multiple times.

Oh, I thought in the anime it was implied that the universes were only going to be wiped out because Goku reminded the Zenos about the tournament, therefore the entire thing was basically his fault. Then again, I don't watch the anime religiously and mostly go on what's said on topics here, so fair enough if I'm wrong on that one.
