I'm not mad about that anymore but it does prove my point. People would have fainted if they even thought about making them while T2 toys were a massive hit back then.
Except, that at the same time, people were literally freaking out about Married With Children, Doom, and Grand Theft Auto. That's not even getting into the PMRC, which is levels above anything we have today. Every era has had something like that, too. Hell, All in the Family caused massive controversy. Scarface (the original) had to have its ending changed for Scarface to see his comeuppance. Hell, Indiana Jones (another popular toy) was considered offensive enough that they had to create a whole nother rating in between PG and R.
It's not about controversy it's about how today people would never allow them to market a movie to kids where someone gets stabbed in the face. ---
