Imagine having what looks like a massive victory, where you defeat the literal Emperor and his latest superweapon and not have it mean s*** because 30 years later there will be a new emperor and a bigger, better superweapon. What is even the point of this struggle?

The endless waltz!

It will always keep happening in real life so each new generation needs their own fable for it.

And this time its finally intersectional!

Also theres this really amazing undertone to the sequels about a postwar generation struggling to find their way in the world/galaxy, faced with fitting within archaic systems they never asked to be forced into.

The whole Kylo Ren speech about dumping all of it, Jedi, Sith, Resistance, Empire, and rebooting the galaxy should end up resonating somehow when this trilogy is done beyond just a tease of something much more interesting that the film decided to abandon.
