As someone else stated, a huge truck like that can't go 0-60 in 3 seconds, it takes times to get it going. After she gets in the car they are "both in the truck" for like 2 seconds before she freaks out and jumps out the other side. Also, they both get away, so their actions seemed to work out in the end for them. Who's saying that he stopped for no reason? I'm more concerned with why he and the main character decided to get back out of the truck when they were perfectly safe and to have the truck driver just run off.
