This. That said, I don't think it was a mistake. I know local systems do the "tests" all the time and say it's a test when they do. But I feel like this wasn't an accident, it was to see if the real alert worked. Obviously they can't admit it because of the widespread panic it caused.

That makes no sense at all. Real alerts and test alerts work the exact same way. The only difference is the message you type in it. To test the system they would send it the exact same way, only they would mention it's a test, instead of saying specifically that it wasn't a drill.


they don't type in a message at all, they just have to confirm it. The worker confirmed the message. look it up

There are other ways to test a system without... actually utilizing it, or sending the "not a drill" version of it.

Why does everything have to be a conspiracy? It's just a strangely designed system that let a guy send a mass message out far more easily than it should have been.


So why didn't they do that? Why didn't the person who confirmed the message clearly see what it said? Human error is a real thing, but it's not that big a stretch to think it was intentional.
