I've heard it's a lot more of a..."personal" experience. In that, with mushrooms, each trip is obviously different but the general outline of events remains the same. (That's how it has been with my experiences and those of my friends.) Whereas acid's effects can vary much more, or so says my friends who have done it.
It can, but its great. Great for personal exploration of your psyche. ---
