You had indies even in the 80s and 90s. The indy scene is *much* smaller now and fewer people are making an actual living than ever before. Keep in mind that Japan already *had* a thriving wrestling scene in the 80s.


The indy scene is going smaller yet more opportunities are available from the main promotions such as WWE with NXT and their own performance centres.

Most of the moves are goofy, look contrived (since they stand there), and are unnecessarily dangerous.


A good wrestler can pull off good looking moves without hurting themselves or others in most cases. Still I suppose it's a matter of high risk, high reward.
