My guess is: real gun, but staged image just to screw with people as a joke. It is only illegal to remove in certain states. They don't even sell them with orange tips in my state. At least some brands don't. There are a lot of states where it is perfectly legal to not have a safety orange tip or any other indicator. If that IS a real carbine, and they are just posing for a prank picture, I'm pretty pissed off, because her finger is on the damn trigger. Which is a major violation of gun safety and gun rules. Don't ever put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot, PERIOD. And this barrel is obviously pointed in an unsafe direction, finger on trigger.
