Topic | I want some recommendations for fun, cooperative board games |

It usually just devolves into 1 or 2 people barking out what they think is best, often not even asking for input. And it's justified, because it's always the right choice; it just makes the game not very fun. All the ones I've ever played usually are basically single player games, in that one person could essentially do all the turns. But when it's co-op, the point is to work together. So people try to help. But the flaw in co-op board games is that discussion is the game, so it takes the personal aspect out of playing your turn. Someone starts a turn and another player is like "it would make sense to do ____", and they are right. So that person does that; it's what they would have done anyway, but it just doesn't feel like you are even playing. It's just the down-side of a co-op board game that doesn't have any physical/dexterity skill based actions, or any kind of hidden information among players to make discussion more interesting (though those tend to have alternate win conditions that defeat the point of co-op when you can beat the other players). It all comes down to the fact that a mutliplayer game that can essentially be played by a single person doesn't make for an interesting game for the whole group. All the extra players are just filler. Games need to have a reason to be co-op, and boardgames haven't found a good way to implement it. --- Bells, bells, bells! ... Copied to Clipboard! |
