When I worked as a cook at a moderately large restaurant chain the store didn't open until 6 a.m but we were expected to be there and work off the clock by 5:30 a.m (literally system was locked until 6 a.m). If we didn't do this not only would no one have a job and none of the customers would be pissed we didn't have their morning gruel ready immediately.
