They just torture whoever they got in custody for weeks (including withholding his medications) until they sign a forced confession. Then they get convicted with that confession as the only evidence.

And then they go to a prison like that.

And when you're accused of a crime over there, it's basically scientifically impossible to get acquitted. A judge who acquits a criminal defendant will never ever get a promotion to an appeal court, and his career is basically in the gutter since he's now seen as a judge who defied the government (prosecution)


Japan is very proud of its 100% conviction rate. People aren't aware that it's entirely manufactured.

It's why Ace Attorney is popular in the first place. The series is a criticism of the Japanese legal system.
