cringery marvel humor

Yeah the whole part in the beginning where what's his name was pretending he couldn't hear the imperial officer really was ripped straight from Marvel

What bothered me about that wasn't just that it wasn't that funny, but that it was poorly timed. When you watch a lot of movies that are action comedy, or just not straight-up comedies, they almost never undermine the bad guys with jokes and zingers. If they do, they do it less and less frequently the earlier into the movie you go, because the bad guys need to be taken at least somewhat seriously.

Not that every movie has to be the same, but take Mulan for example (just because I happened to watch it yesterday). At the start, the Huns are played 100% straight-faced. They don't stumble over the walls, the Chinese guards don't throw one-liners at them or hit them with frying pans. They're terrified and everything is as serious as a heart attack. Then the comedy comes - and when it does, the Huns are rarely if ever the subject of it. If anything they get MORE menacing as the movie goes on.

The wacky being on hold stuff might have been fine a little further into the movie or something, but it's baffling to me that they thought to put it in so early (or at all, because it's not that funny).
