"gravity distorting space" (more correct to say that gravity is mass distorting space) is the general relativity theory of gravity which is currently not reconcilable with a quantum theory of gravity.

in quantum theory, the other forces are exchanges of particles. electromagnetism is the exchange of photons between electrons, for example. for a quantum theory of gravity, the exchange particles named gravitons have not been proven to exist yet. there are various reasons why which are beyond my understanding.
