You do get really moody, but I think it does come down to self control. It's not like it's a bitch switch, more like every little thing grates at you more than usual.

Not an excuse, but it would be like if you had something stabbing you over and over, not enough to really hurt, but enough that your having trouble keeping composure, and feel the pain from it going over your whole body. This would of course upset you and you would have a hard time being your normal cheerful self to people. That's pretty much all it is, some people can deal with it better than others.
