A lot of these are dependent on who is actually playable in the game, as many rosters rotate characters in and out. I used Scorpion primarily in MK at first, for example, but as new games came along, I dropped him... or stuff like "no X-Men" in MvC: Infinite... (which will hopefully be a thing of the past once the Fox buyout goes ahead).
I forgot all about dark stalkers. mine was BB Hood and the so typical choice of morrigan. ---
