If you're just starting out on Prince, I'd recommend the entire Purple Rain album; it's a critically acclaimed, high quality album that's commercial enough to be appealing for casual listeners. It's 43 minutes long and has 9 songs, so it's quite short and sweet. You can listen to it online for free on Spotify. "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", "Purple Rain" and "I Would Die 4 U" are some of the most memorable pop songs of all time.
So, listen to that album to find out whether or not you want to go deeper in Prince's music. If you decide you do, I'd definitely recommend listening to the Dirty Mind, 1999 and Sign O' The Times albums; aside from Purple Rain, those are Prince's only critically acclaimed albums, iirc.
