Government can't do that. It can only set a wage floor, which causes the poor and unskilled to lose jobs when their labor is no longer worth what employers are allowed to pay.

Nothing's changed.
Republicans still have a majority in the Senate, the seat is almost assured to go back to republican in 2020, and the 2018 midterms have vastly more democrat seats up for grabs than republican seats.
