There's buying a few things here or there that aren't a necessity, and there's going all out with all kinds of dumb shit. Wi-Fi enabled light bulbs? The fuck? Who needs internet on their refrigerator? It's unnecessary! You can't go on your phone/tablet now while you're in the kitchen? It's getting out of control. It sounds pretty awesome to me to be able to control a light with my phone or check my fridge's filters via an app. NERD Loser!
