I know there's this phenomenon where people basically 'cut off their nose to spite their face', like the saying goes.

Redcaps everywhere are happy signing away their health care, tax breaks, and relinquishing our status as # 1 superpower as long as they can be openly racist and the promise to eventually turn back demographic tides so things are like in the 50s (therefore 'great again').

I get this is what's happening... but my underlying question is, how is this possible? Racism, yes, get it. But it goes against every bit of self preservation people have! This tax bill stuff opened my eyes even more.

Small biz owners voted overwhelmingly for 45. So did old people and blue collar workers without college education.

This tax bill will take away SO MANY of the deductions small biz owners (hello small biz owners!) could claim. The deficit will balloon (which cracks me up, because the entire GOP and tea party shtick of the last 8 years was 'reduce deficit or we will shut down the government!!').

You know what will happen after the tax bill passes? Suddenly the GOP will care about deficit again and they will go after... Social Security (hello blue collar workers!!) and Medicare (hello old people!!). I am not making this up:

Put things into perspective: Some people paid (mandatory!) into social security for years, perhaps decades. This is not an entitlement, people paid for this, whether they wanted or not. And now it might get taken away from them so the millionaires can get yet another windfall. This is literally socialism and wealth redistribution.

People are ok with this. Because well, 45 retweets hate groups and says he will get rid of the scary brown people. But how does this work? How can simply racism and identity politics override self preservation and the idea that one should get ripped off?

It blows my mind guys, what do you think?
