Well, a half-lie. Women were still expected to keep their virginity to the point that most would be beaten within an inch of their lives and then shipped off to a convent if they were nobility or royalty and were caught having popped their cherry outside of marriage.


Well the half lie for the most part comes from the fact that women had marriages arranged for them while they were extremely young so that they would not have had an opportunity to have sex.

Outside of an arranged marriage context, they usually just lied about being virgins. And for nobles, the women would often lie about being pregnant as well if their husband knocked up some housemaid and they had to explain where the baby came from all of a sudden
