They chose to work there. They knew what the consequences were

or they could not not work there and die because society doesn't give food stamps to single people with no kids

Well, they accepted the job. They need to be adults and work. They work for a company thats open

They should be giving their employees a day off.

Like some professions don't get holidays. That's to be expected for those people. Certain vital services need to be available all the time for life and limb. It used to be that retail, banks, government, offices, etc. would observe those holidays. It's very recent that retail is open on Thanksgiving. Like when I was in the US before, I forgot to get a meat thermometer for the turkey so we had to wait until the next day to go buy one and cook the bird. Nothing was open save for convenience stores.

And to think they're starting black Friday shit today? It's essentially eliminating a huge holiday for the lower working class to serve everyone else. It won't be long before they're also working Christmas day and further alienated from people close to then in the name of working a job they probably don't have a choice in taking.

I say this as someone that's volunteered for any holidays possible and will be working Christmas day... It should not be the norm in retail.
