I also never understood what ketchup Chicago people (don't) use that is more sweet than any of the other basic flavors. The whole point of ketchup is to be a balance of sweet, savory, salty and tart.

It doesn't taste right on hot dogs. The flavors just don't go together well.


They do though, and that's why most of the world puts ketchup on hot dogs. It's just a Chicago gimmick to trash it because a "real" dog is supposed to have mustard, onions, relish, peppers, a pickle, and cucumber salt.


Celery salt. The problem with ketchup is it overpowers everything else. If you put 6 things on a hot dog, and then ketchup, you just have a hot dog that tastes like ketchup.
