Except that is literally what the article is indeed focusing on. The second article even concedes that gun violence has gone down. It tries to paint a narrative by being selective with the statistics they choose. Crime stats don't exist in a bubble. Guns aren't the only thing that influence every single crime rate. The rape statistic is a perfect example of this. A police database logging more rape stats doesn't mean that more people get raped there. Yet that's exactly what the article tries to claim.
