"The New York Times didn't say this. An opinion writer said this. His opinions do not reflect those of NYT." 2. "Did you read the whole article?" 3. "I get it, but I don't think his opinion is going to help him in the long run, and it'll probably be detrimental to his kids' success in America." None of that is in defense of this person.
