It would also be more entertaining if Seth MacFarlane's character died and they stopped trying to add 20th/21st century pop culture references and Family Guy-style humor. They add in the 20th/21st pop culture references because we are the audience. Sure they could make up their own made up references from their time but no one would get it. I don't mind the humour because it feel more grounded. I can understand if that isn't your kind of humour but I like it.
