Soviet_Poland 11/11/17 2:26:57 PM #23: | Dark Souls. When I was younger I played a game called King's Field IV: The Ancient City (PS2). No one had heard of it. It certainly didn't hold your hand. But I pushed through the initial frustration and discovered a deep richness and rewarding dungeon crawler. Fast forward until a few years ago, I had this game called Dark Souls in my backlog for years. I never got around to playing it because the PC port had awkward controls without a controller and I never pushed through the intro. One day I went through the hassle to get a controller to work and gave the game another try. It struck all the chords that King's Field did way back when: a rich, exploratory action RPG that did not give you instructions or hold your hand. It felt rewarding to overcome all the challenges. When I found out it was made by the same developer, everything suddenly made sense. I discovered my favorite genre or "formula." Subsequently played every other game in the series + other souls-esque games. I still crave more. --- "He has two neurons held together by a spirochete." ... Copied to Clipboard! |
