I always see these memes about college kids eating ramen, when they could spend $10 get rice and ground beef and beans, mix them and probably eat that for a few days.

I agree, and to add to that, you can make homemade soup with four or five ingredients. Get some chicken broth, a bag of potatoes, bag of onions, butter, and add milk or cream if you want it richer. Add more veggies if you like them. You just need a large pot to make a bigger batch. Soup isn't too expensive to make unless you want meat in it. You could get a rotisserie chicken and shred the meat into the soup, to save time.
