because people aren't born inherently knowing why something is right or wrong.

Took people away from their homes, took away their rights, made them work for free in often horrible conditions.

I struggle to think of many things worse than slavery aside from immense torture.

your imagination isnt very good then. humanity has perfected the fine art of pain and suffering. while slavery was clearly painful, im sure there are worse things.

so lets look at this point. the counter point was black folks are better off in the long because of this? well they actually are. had blacks never been forced to come over here and sold by their own people they never would have come to america, and they never would enjoy a land that wasnt a third world shithole. they'd still be living in that hell known as most of africa and the middle east which when compared to say america, is a pretty shitty place to be.

and before anyone says "it sucked for the slaves". that might very well be true, but a lot of people have been stuck in shitty conditions throughout life. slaves hardly have a monopoly on this. people who lived during the black plague basically worked, popped out kids and died when they were 35 or earlier. and they lived in shitty conditions. so slaves hardly have a monopoly on bad living conditions. take the holocaust....a terrible thing, but at the end of it, the jews finally get Israel back.

at the end of slavery, the descendants of those slaves get to live in america with an opportunity to do anything they want.

so yeah.....there is a valid point to be made that the descendants of those slaves should be glad their ancestors made it over here at some point. heck many of my white ancestors suffered quite a bit to make the trek over here too and nobody says that was a bad thing.

nobody says these acts werent bad, but the argument is that blacks ended up better off for it, and he's right. they did become better off for it.

now i wonder how long this post stands before it gets modded for being racist even though its not as no where in here did i condone slavery, merely stated there was in fact a net positive to it's existence, and part of that net positive was the descendents of blacks are benefiting from it big time.

p.s.

it also needs to be said that not every slave was getting beaten in the fields 24/7. some slaves actually had a fairly decent life. Fred douglas comes to mind as one slave that had a pretty good life as a slave. and some slave owners didn't beat their slaves a lot either and some slaves basically got to live inside doing house work. so we also need to understand that not all slaves were getting beat 24/7 and starving.
