Like, it's literally a cop's job to determine if a crime was committed, and killing someone in self-defense is not a crime. Actually no. Cops don't decide that. And killing in self defense is still a crime. Yes, they do. They gather the evidence to determine if there is enough to charge someone with a crime (you know, since you can't just arrest someone and not charge them).
