For whatever reason, the audience can more easily forgive wartime atrocities over the kind of real-life sins the writers wanted to avoid on their historical figure hunt (spousal / child beating, raping and abusing slaves, that sort of thing). "Oh, everyone always known Hollywood is perverted, and if they were doing something really serious they'd get arrested." --- Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read. ...
