Speaking of, how vindicated is Trump right now?

"Political correctness is fine, but not for this."

Damn right.

I agree that political correctness can be taken too far.

It just seems strange however when the following happens:

1a) Nazi and/or other white nationalist commits an act of terror.
1b) That was an isolated incident by a disturbed person.
1c) You then have to pull ALL of the teeth just to get anyone to admit that it was "terrorism".

2a) Muslim and/or other radicalized person commits an act of terror.
2b) Immediately called terrorism.
2c) Immediately used as an opportunity to increase restrictions on immigration.

And don't get me wrong, I have no problem with 2b. Call a duck a duck and call terrorism terrorism. But there shouldn't be factors that affect your willingness to do that. And at this point it is very difficult to believe anything except that factors such as race and religion have a large impact on how Trump and others in the administration respond to what on the face of it are very similar actions.

And regarding 2c I absolutely think we should have tough policies that keep our citizens safe.

But I also think we already HAD stringent policies that were very effective at screening. It took a very long time to immigrate into the country and numerous agencies were responsible for screening people.

And so I think by very publicly declaring that you are going to be scrutinizing certain races and religions and very publicly "banning" them from entering the country you are actually making the problem worse. It makes us out to be the bad guy and it gives terrorist organizations more fuel with which to radicalize people who are already living here.

And they don't even have to make up propaganda to try and convince people that the united states hates them and doesn't want them or people like them in the country. The administration is saying those things on it's own without any prompting.

And I'm not saying that is specifically the cause of THIS attack, because I don't know about this attack to make any kind of judgement like that. I'm just saying that in principle with our hateful policies we are making it easier for the terrorists. And when our president is consistently and vocally treating two groups of terrorists differently from another then I think it's only going to get worse.

Terrorism has a specific definition, and needs to have a motive.

This person today by yelling God is Great in Arabic instantly and unquestionably gave his act both the defintion and motive. Till you attain a motive it's just mass murder not terrorism.
