I attended the schools I support and like to see people from there succeed whether it's sports, academic competitions, of whatever. For city based teams, you can extend it to stuff like family traditions. Maybe you have good memories of family bonding over watching your team so now you feel some kind of investment. Or whatever.
That's all I feel like explaining because I don't really invest that much energy into explaining things to people willingly acting dense and being confrontational while doing so.
