Fat people are more costly to the healthcare system.

Mostly because there's no real competition in insulin manufacturing.


Also because being obese means much higher risk of all kinds of diseases and chronic illnesses, which means more treatment for longer periods of time.


But, much like chainsmoking, it means a pile of costs all at once, then suddenly no more costs. In contrast, someone who lives to be 90 or 100 (or 110) will have several decades of chronic conditions.


A lifetime of chronic conditions is more likely when you're obese. The costs because of obesity are huge.
