It's not only nice to share a social experience with someone, or watch an entertaining personality's reaction to something. But it's also cool to see different perspectives on things. I feel like things like watching "old people" react to "young people" things is the easiest example. I always thought the genre evolved from the videos showing people "2 girls, 1 cup" and other shock videos, though.
