What if it would slow you down, because you'd have to have to let them finish drinking before you got the water bottle back and you could go on your way? Would you be ok being a bit slower, even though you could have finished faster?

That's what the income inequality thing is about. It's not about making everyone finish the race at the same time. It's saying, if you see someone struggling, perhaps they need some help. You aren't obligated to help them...but the question is, is it right to not share when you very easily could? Is you finishing as fast as possible more important than them possibly dying? Even if they maybe didn't bring water, or squandered it all, or were not prepared well enough for the race by their knowledge of how to run or they didn't train enough for the difficulty of this race, or they didn't dress for the weather. So maybe they could have avoided this situation, or made it easier for themselves, but should we just watch them suffer and let them collapse, in the name of finishing the race as fast as we can?
