He can in canon break the sound barrier while flying and also destroy entire towers in a single blast while moving at a few hundred mph When he got "toasted" it was mostly luck, to the point where most traditional weapons probably couldn't hit him outside of an insanely expert sniper But after he teams up with Hiccup he rarely shows the same extent of ability.
