This isn't a thesis paper but there are plenty of demonstrations and police training videos out there that show how quickly a seemingly harmless individual can close in and inflict serious damage..I would not want to be a police officer, especially today, with all the hate for them.. It's a dangerous enough job without all the recent waves of dummies with iphone cameras trying to get internet famous.

Weird, I never seen any of those police training videos in Police Academy

If you let someone close in 15 feet with a pipe, you're not good at your job. Those dummies with the cameras are the reason that we can catch these improperly trained officers so this won't be as prevalent. Unfortunately, we live in some sort of cartoon world where it's okay to unjustly kill someone as long as you have a badge.
