My wife and I got married 18 months ago, for around $1200. With that, we were able to feed 60 people, and got everything we wanted out of our wedding.

How did we do it? I was the caterer. We had an outdoor wedding at our favorite nature preserve. Since the wedding was outside, in a forest, no need for expensive decorations. She tried on her dress at a store and then ordered it online. We used previously purchased music from our own collections, and I made a playlist on my laptop, connected to my guitar amp. The ceremony was about 10 minutes long, and then it was a cookout in a park with family. Open bar, consisting of a keg and a few bottles of liquor. Our cake was made by a baker trying to break into the wedding business. TWO photographers, both students, trying to build up their portfilios. And everything was perfect.

Here's the best part, between gifts and cash, we actually walked away with more than we spent on the wedding.
