Nonsense like this ruin people's lives when the truth comes out and they are found innocent. Besides, have you never been to a public school? All it takes is for one popular kid (usually a girl) to get their friends to side with them and the truth takes a backseat to mob mentality. It's happened many times in many different schools where a few kids will get half the school population riled up about conjecture to the point where the truth doesn't matter because they already made up their minds and the outcome (regardless of right or wrong) will cause more unrest. A teenager was "asked" to attend a different school in a major city near me because some girl said he was peeping through her window at night, even though he had an iron-clad alibi (he was at work).
