The CGI is all action and combat, and the 2d animated stuff is much more drama based. Yeah, there's plenty of anime that are partially CGI (usually for battle scenes) and partially normal 2D. Frame Arms Girl is more recent example of this, since they used CGI for the F.A. Girls but normal 2D for the human characters. A fully CGI anime will very rarely, if ever, have great animation.
