To be fair, the buttons only trigger a software function so if the device has locked up it doesn't matter if it's a s/w or physical button and if it needs to be reset you can just use another combination of power/volume. That said, I get that there's a nicer feel to pressing a physical button but then you have the issue of mechanical wear and eventual failure.

Besides, the iPhone X doesn't have a headphone jack. It also doesn't use Touch ID anymore...

The lack of headphone jack is irritating but the lightning port headphones isn't so bad an alternative, but the face ID/removal of touch ID is a terrible idea and is too easily exploitable/prevented from working. I foresee a lot of ppl switching back to PIN/passcode out of frustration.
