There's only a limited number of scumbags that are going to use people's information to commit identity theft/fraud. Though there's a lot of scumbags out there, it's not hundreds of millions.

You're ignoring the fact that this information can potentially be used for the rest of your life. It's why everyone is lambasting the 1 year protection that Equifax is offering.

More protection is better, there's no reason not to. Equifax has cleared up the ToS thing, saying the arbitration and class-action clauses don't apply to the "cybersecurity incident" as they are putting it.
